Head of Practice

About the Role:

Join the Women's Legal Centre ACT team as the Head of Practice, leading the family law practice area in delivering crucial legal and social support services to women in Canberra. As a key member of the executive leadership team, you will work collaboratively to develop and deliver on strategy, drive service delivery, partnerships, and trauma-informed legal services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing team of family law solicitors to provide expert legal advice and achieve high-impact outcomes for clients.
  • Develop and implement a multidisciplinary, trauma-informed service model that prioritizes cultural safety.
  • Supervise and guide solicitors in complex casework, representation in courts, and stakeholder relationships.
  • Represent the Centre in local and national law reform forums.
  • Participate in law reform initiatives, public interest, and advocacy work.
Requirements:

You are a collaborative, ambitious, and creative leader with:

  • Significant family law practice and technical knowledge.
  • Experience in supervising legal practitioners and overseeing complex casework.
  • Strong partnership development, community, and stakeholder relations skills.
  • Commitment to trauma-informed practice, reflection, and self-care.
Preferred Qualifications:

Act Unrestricted Practicing Certificate, Eligibility to hold an ACT Unrestricted Practicing Certificate.
