Biodiversity Conservation Professional

This role requires a highly motivated and skilled individual to support the development and delivery of biodiversity uplift activities across various sectors.

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring identified sites, providing advice on biodiversity and natural resources, and supporting the achievement of state, commonwealth, and other targets.
Key Responsibilities

The Graduate – Biodiversity and Spatial Data will be involved in:

  • Project Support: Supporting biodiversity projects and initiatives across the organisation by coordinating site visits and surveys as required, identifying biodiversity opportunities, and engaging with staff on-site.
  • Grant Research and Writing: Identifying and applying for grants and applications for biodiversity uplift projects, submissions, and recognition.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including councils, landcare groups, and other environmental organisations, to support the delivery of internal biodiversity uplift initiatives and embed environmental best practice.
  • Community Outreach: Providing advice and information on biodiversity and natural resource management to the V/Line community and interfacing with communications teams to produce collateral, communications, and related media.
  • Data Management: Supporting the management of V/Line's environmental spatial data sets, providing mapping and spatial data interpretation as appropriate, and maintaining environmental data sets.
  • Strategy Development: Supporting the Head of Biodiversity and Natural Resources in leading V/Line to align with State and Federal biodiversity strategy, targets, and objectives.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Supporting the preparation of environmental reporting and the development and alignment of environmental documentation relating to biodiversity, natural resource management, and climate adaptation.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental management, geography, science (geospatial), environmental engineering, or a relevant field (mandatory).
  • Fundamental understanding of spatial data management and systems, preferably with ARC GIS.
  • Understanding of biodiversity, natural resource management concepts, and processes.
  • Strong analytical thinking and data management ability.
  • Strong communication and engagement skills.
  • Strong attention to detail ensuring accuracy and quality of work.
  • Possession for positive biodiversity outcomes.
  • Collaborative and inclusive mindset with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and build strong relationships across the organisation.
  • Operating in an ethical and trustworthy manner and handling sensitive data and information with integrity and discretion.
  • Strong customer focus by being committed to delivering value and improving the experience for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Current Driver's license.
