CG Supervisor Role

As a key member of our VFX team, you will play a pivotal role in driving the growth and development of our Sydney studio.

The successful candidate will oversee the 3D department's workflow and creative success, including personally working on shots and troubleshooting technical issues. You will represent the 3D team to internal and external clients, helping manage workload and priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

- Partner with Production to ensure department resources are balanced across projects.
- Monitor workload and assignments, balancing volume of work with artists' strengths for best results.
- Coordinate with Production teams to manage artists and maintain high quality work.
- Advise supervisors on best practices and participate in breaking down and bidding 3D work.
- Suggest efficient techniques to keep bids competitive and minimise unnecessary production needs and labour.
- Work on shots personally, maintaining sufficient bandwidth for other duties. Focus on covering team members and tackling short projects.
- Proactively anticipate issues with existing workflow, technology and staffing, and present solutions to management.
- Cultivate a team-oriented approach across the department and company as a whole. Address interpersonal conflicts promptly and collaboratively.
- Establish and advise on priorities for the 3D render farm and Render Wrangler.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding and training.
- Prepare and document workflows and best practices, organising them for easy staff access.
- Communicate a consistent and compelling picture of the company's position as a world-class VFX studio.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 10+ years in 3D, leading CG Generalist teams or specialist artists.
  • Highly proficient in Maya and/or Houdini.
  • Basic familiarity with compositing workflows and tools.
  • Strong understanding of lighting principles, colour theory and latest techniques in 3D computer graphics.
  • Role model in conflict resolution and ability to provide insight into complex situations.
  • Highly organised individual who enjoys the creative process and managing a team.
