Geriatric Consultant Opportunity

Our department of Older People’s Medicine is seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Geriatric Consultant to join our team. This exciting opportunity offers a complex Older Peoples Ward with a colleague, where the successful candidate will be responsible for 14 inpatients.

This forward-thinking department develops services that begin in the heart of the community, utilizing virtual wards and seamless specialist care from assessment to treatment. We are committed to delivering high-quality patient care and would welcome an individual who shares this vision.

Key Responsibilities:
  • General responsibilities including participation in Consultant on-call rota
  • Specialist Clinics: conducting clinics and providing expert advice
  • Outpatient Clinics: managing patients’ conditions and ensuring effective communication
  • Operating: performing surgical procedures as required by specialty
  • Teaching: mentoring junior staff and undergraduates
  • Clinical Administration: managing administrative tasks and prioritizing complex demands
  • Participation in Clinical Governance: contributing to quality improvement initiatives
Requirements:
  • MRCP or equivalent qualification
  • Eligibility for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Geriatrics and General Internal Medicine within six months of expected date of CCT (or within 6 months of application)
  • Detailed knowledge of Geriatrics and G(I)M, with evidence of higher specialist training
  • Ability to take independent clinical responsibility while working within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Organizational skills and ability to prioritize complex demands
  • Flexible approach to colleagues and team members
