Digital Heritage Preservation Specialist

We're seeking a part-time Digital Heritage Preservation Specialist to work one day a week. This role offers flexibility and the opportunity to balance other commitments.

About the Role

In this position, you'll be responsible for:

  • Preserving Australia's digital heritage by creating disk images of vintage software
  • Building legacy environments for the Emulation as a Service Infrastructure (Eaa SI) platform
  • Outreaching with artists to train them in imaging and preserving their own materials
Your Responsibilities

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • An understanding of digital/software preservation practices and why stabilising at-risk media matters
  • Experience imaging floppy and optical disks with tools like Applesauce
  • The ability to follow workflows, document processes, and manage data produced
  • Familiarity with vintage operating systems (DOS, Windows 3.11, Windows 98, Mac OS7, Mac OS9, Commodore, Amiga)
  • Experience with Emulation-as-a-Service Infrastructure and vintage file formats
  • A genuine interest in digital art and culture
  • The ability to train and share knowledge with others
About You

We're looking for someone with:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant Arts or technical discipline
  • Relevant work experience or a combination of relevant work experience and education/training
