About This Role:

The Lead Firmware Engineering Innovator oversees a team of skilled software and firmware engineers, leveraging their expertise in multiple domains and development methodologies to drive innovation and excellence.

This role is based in Brisbane, Australia.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and develop the skills of the software and firmware engineering staff, focusing on hiring, training, and performance management.
  • Analyze and understand the organization as an interrelated system, identifying the impact of changes on the whole system, and leverage this understanding to innovate and transform the software development process.
  • Model effective habits in software engineering, foster a proactive, goal-oriented approach to work, and design processes that balance team needs and project requirements.
  • Establish technologies and processes used by the team, facilitate the adoption of industry-leading practices, and manage complex firmware design, coding, and debugging functions for multiple projects of significant magnitude.
  • Design, develop, and innovate software utilizing Object-Oriented Programming and Functional Programming at an expert level, driving other team members to implement these techniques.
  • Direct all components of desktop environments, storage, databases, monitoring, and automation tools, designing, building, maintaining, and troubleshooting enterprise-class solutions to fulfill business needs.
  • Foster the team's use of DevOps, Agile development, pipeline delivery, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to support software development teams, contributing to solution design and deployment, and assisting with troubleshooting issues and challenges.
  • Work effectively with legacy code, analyzing, understanding, and improving existing codebases without disruption, transforming the value of legacy systems.
  • Improve the team's use of Test-Driven Development at an expert level to ensure excellent code quality.
  • Direct and execute Continuous Deployment with Continuous Delivery, encouraging the rest of the team.
  • Design, query, and maintain SQL databases at an expert level.
  • Establish the use of Refactoring to Patterns, Design Patterns, Database Normalization, and Object-Oriented Programming.
  • Implement retrospectives at regular intervals.
  • Implement testing via automation scripts or manual testing based on product specifications.
  • Foster collaboration with hardware engineers in selecting and implementing devices, recommending pin-out mapping.
  • Design, transform, and implement communication and protocol standards.
