About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional Firmware Engineering Director to lead our software and firmware engineering team. Located in Brisbane, Australia, this role offers a unique opportunity to drive innovation and excellence in software development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a high-performing team of software and firmware engineers, responsible for hiring, training, and performance management.
  • Analyze and understand the organization as an interrelated system, identifying impacts of changes on the whole system and leveraging this understanding to innovate and transform the software development process.
  • Model effective habits in software engineering, foster a proactive, goal-oriented approach to work, and design processes that balance team and project needs.
  • Establish technologies and processes utilized by the team, facilitating adoption of industry-leading practices.
  • Manage complex firmware design, coding, and debugging functions for multiple projects of major magnitude, including research, development, or sustaining work.
  • Design, develop, and innovate software utilizing Object Oriented Programming and Functional Programming at an expert level, driving other team members to implement these techniques.
  • Direct all components of desktop environment, storage, database, monitoring, and automation tools, designing, building, maintaining, and troubleshooting enterprise-class solutions.
  • Facilitate the team's use of DevOps, Agile development, pipeline delivery, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to support software development teams.
  • Contribute to the design and deployment of solutions, assist with troubleshooting issues and challenges, and work effectively with legacy code.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent training and work experience.
  • Minimum 8 years of programming experience in Software and Firmware Development, with 3 years of experience supervising Software and Firmware Development teams.
  • Expert-level knowledge of multiple software/firmware programming languages: Embedded C/C++, Python.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS components, their relationships, dependencies, configuration options, and best practices.
  • Ability to Unit Test and Automated UI Test all testable code, design SQL databases with the appropriate normalization level, and have advanced knowledge of hardware design.
  • Excellent leadership skills, embracing ownership, learning from failures, and striving to improve team productivity and software quality.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
