Aboriginal Community Engagement Officer

Role Overview:
The Aboriginal Community Engagement Officer contributes to the collaboration between Aboriginal communities, peak agencies, and the alcohol, tobacco, and other drug sector to identify needs and implement strategies to build capacity to respond to alcohol, tobacco, and other drug issues in South Australian Aboriginal populations.
The position contributes to Indigenous alcohol and other drug workforce development, cultural competency within Aboriginal Health Promotion, and Preventive Health SA.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop close working relationships with community-based Aboriginal agencies and Aboriginal communities.
- Promote and implement Aboriginal Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug health promotion capacity building initiatives.
- Contribute to the promotion and implementation of suitable alcohol, tobacco, and other drug screening tools.
- Support and strengthen partnerships between the Aboriginal community, government, and mainstream service providers to build capacity to respond to drug use problems.
- Contribute to strategy planning and delivery.
- Contribute to the development of Aboriginal cultural competence across Preventive Health SA practice and service delivery.
- Contribute to the achievement of professional expertise through ongoing personal professional development/continuing education.
- Contribute to other Preventive Health SA Programs, including Quality Improvement activities.
Requirements:
- A National Police Certificate (NPC) for employment involving no contact with vulnerable groups is required for this position.
- Immunisation requirements apply.
