This Specialist Addiction Service offers innovative and diverse programs for Adults, Women's and Children's Services, Youth and Family Services, Residential Withdrawal Services, and Addiction Medicine Services.

As a Clinical Addiction Specialist at DHS, you will provide specialist support to numerous AOD services, including a busy outpatient opioid treatment clinic and the Addiction Medicine Consultation & Liaison Service.

A key priority of this role is supporting the Statewide Service for Mental Health and Substance Use or Addiction.

The Clinical Addiction Specialist will use advanced clinical nursing skills to deliver high-quality AOD assessment and treatment to clients and families of DHS. This role also holds key components, working across the spectrum of potential AOD presentations:

  • Screening
  • Clinical assessment
  • Brief intervention, harm reduction
  • Motivational interviewing
  • Commencement of appropriate AOD treatments
  • Linkage into appropriate community and/or hospital-based addiction treatment services

The Clinical Addiction Specialist role is grounded in the nursing profession's values, knowledge, theories, and practice and provides innovative and flexible healthcare delivery that complements other healthcare providers.

This position is a permanent full-time role, which could be divided among applicants seeking part-time roles.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Recognised qualifications as an Addiction Medicine or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner;
  • Well-developed professional communication and interpersonal skills;
  • A demonstrated commitment to professional development of self and others;
  • A demonstrated commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and delivery of evidence-based best care;
  • A desire to contribute to a positive organisational culture and role model professionalism with respect to patient dignity and compassion, effective communication, and ethical clinical care;
  • A desire to be involved in service evaluation, audits, and research activities.
