About Us

The Department of Justice and Community Safety provides a range of government programs and services which focus on improving community safety, victim services, regulatory services and crime prevention.

We work in partnership with Traditional Owners and the Victorian Aboriginal community to embed the principles of self-determination in the justice sector.

This includes driving systemic change in the justice system to connect, support and deliver better outcomes for the Aboriginal community.

Job Description

This position is responsible for driving change and coordinating effort across the department to improve outcomes for Aboriginal people in Victoria.

The role will provide authoritative strategic leadership and advice on Aboriginal affairs across the department.

  • Drive change and coordinate effort across the department to improve outcomes for Aboriginal Victorians.
  • Provide expert and strategic advice and leadership in the development and implementation of policies, strategies and programs designed to ensure the coordinated and strategic delivery of key government initiatives relating to Aboriginal people.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • An extensive knowledge of Aboriginal culture and society and understanding of historical and contemporary issues relating to Aboriginal people in Victoria.
  • A highly developed ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with the Aboriginal community.
  • Excellent leadership and advisory skills, with the ability to develop and implement effective strategies and policies.
