Financial Management Specialist

  • Preparing and analysing financial statements, budgets, cash flow forecasts, and management reports for internal and external stakeholders is a key responsibility of the role.
  • Ensuring compliance with Australian financial regulations, ATO requirements, and IFRS, including taxation compliance and lodgements.
  • Conducting internal financial investigations, audits, and presenting findings to management or boards.
  • Advising on cost management, risk control, and improvements in accounting systems and internal controls.
  • Liaising with external auditors, financial institutions, and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Prepare, review, and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with Australian Accounting Standards.
  • Ensure timely reporting to the Board, Audit & Risk Committee, and funding bodies.
  • Oversee general ledger reconciliations and ensure accuracy of financial data.
  • Prepare statutory financial reports in compliance with ACNC and ATO requirements.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process in consultation with management and program leaders.
  • Provide financial modelling, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Support management in decision-making through financial insights.
  • Oversee financial reporting for grants, donations, and government contracts.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of acquittals and compliance with funding agreements.
  • Track restricted vs. unrestricted funds and manage donor reporting obligations.
  • Oversee payroll processes, including superannuation and leave provisions.
  • Manage salary packaging and fringe benefits tax (FBT) exemptions specific to NFPs.
  • Ensure compliance with Fair Work, superannuation, and payroll tax obligations.
  • Ensure compliance with ACNC, ATO, ASIC, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Support annual audit process and liaise with external auditors.
  • Maintain and update finance policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Supervise junior finance staff and provide mentoring, training, and development.
  • Collaborate with program managers to strengthen financial literacy across the organisation.
  • Contribute to a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.

Key Requirements

">
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA/CA qualified or working towards) including at least two years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in preparing financial statements, budgeting, taxation compliance, auditing, and financial analysis.
  • Ability to maintain internal control systems, liaise with stakeholders, and advise on financial efficiencies.

  • Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and ACNC/ATO reporting requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling.
  • Experience with grant acquittals and reporting for government and philanthropic funding.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Xero, MYOB, NetSuite) and Microsoft Excel.
