Job Overview

The Census is Australia's most comprehensive snapshot, providing insights into our changing society. It informs our understanding of current and future needs.

This role plays a vital part in ensuring high-quality field operations in regional and remote areas. You will use local knowledge and connections to coordinate and manage operations in your area of responsibility.

  • Recruit, train, and lead a small team of field staff.
  • Work remotely and/or travel to various work areas as required.
  • Develop, update, and review work plans for your area of responsibility.
  • Establish relationships with the community, maintain those networks, and promote participation in the Census.
  • Collaborate with Census and ABS staff to achieve common goals.
  • Monitor progress of your teams and provide project management support and administrative assistance as needed.
  • Provide regular written and/or verbal reports to the Remote Operations Management team.
  • Complete administration tasks such as timesheets, and other duties as directed.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and manage daily Work Health and Safety requirements/activities for your team.
  • Work collaboratively with Census and ABS staff, considering cultural factors and area-level intelligence.
  • Gather support from Local Government and community organisations for the Census.
  • Provide in-field assistance when required for Census operational activities.

Key Requirements

  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Strong local knowledge and map-reading skills.
  • Proven ability to communicate and develop relationships with people in the workplace and community.
  • Capability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and make decisions without close supervision.
  • Excellent project management skills, particularly in an operational setting.
  • Leadership experience, including managing remote teams in fast-paced environments.
  • Skills in people management, including recruitment, training, and implementing WHS practices within a team.
