Why The Role Matters :

This role supports the Program Manager (Student Gender Equity), Program Manager (Student Equity), and Senior Program Officer (Indigenous Engagement) by coordinating activities aimed at underrepresented cohorts in engineering, including women, non-binary and gender diverse individuals, those from low socioeconomic backgrounds, UNSW Gateway schools, remote and rural residents, and Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The Community Engagement Coordinator is part of the UNSW Engineering Societal Impact and Translation team, supporting the UNSW Equity, Diversity and Inclusion strategy , and the UNSW Strategy: Progress for All. This diverse role involves event coordination, knowledge translation, marketing, community engagement initiatives, and building relationships with passionate stakeholders to promote diversity and inclusion in education and engineering sectors.

  • Coordinate and implement community engagement initiatives targeting underrepresented groups.
  • Establish and manage partnerships within UNSW and externally with stakeholders like NSW high schools to enhance impact.
  • Develop and oversee project plans and schedules for initiatives such as Women In Engineering, UNSW Makerbus, Gateway Program, and Indigenous Engagement.
  • Monitor and report on project deliverables ensuring alignment with plans.
  • Provide strategic advice on attracting and retaining students from underrepresented cohorts.
  • Design and implement marketing strategies for targeted activities.
  • Manage stakeholder communications across multiple channels.

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with extensive experience or equivalent competence, preferably in higher education or working with underrepresented groups.
  • Experience in fostering student engagement and community-building programs.
  • A passion for engineering and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Strong project and event coordination skills with proven ability to manage complex projects and report outcomes.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and a track record of successful partnerships.
  • Budget management skills for engagement programs.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently, managing multiple demands.
