The Scientific Evaluator will be responsible for assessing applications to work with genetically modified organisms (GMOs), including research and clinical trial applications. They will also evaluate applications for certification of higher-level facilities to contain work with GMOs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide scientific support for applications involving gene technology.
  • Assist in the assessment of applications for activities with GMOs.
  • Prepare documents, including minutes, reports, guidelines, and technical correspondence.
  • Undertake research or project work on topics relevant to gene technology regulation.
  • Liaise with staff and external stakeholders, including scientific committee members, government agencies, and industry representatives.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in biotechnology, molecular biology, microbiology, virology, biochemistry, genetics, toxicology, medical science, or a related field.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to write clearly and concisely about complex technical matters.
  • Research and analysis skills, with the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Liaison, interpersonal, and oral communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Substantial scientific research experience or experience conducting clinical trials.
  • Postgraduate degree in a relevant field.
