Job Title: Senior Assessor

Join the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) as a Senior Assessor and contribute to safeguarding environmental safety in Australia.

About the Role

The APVMA is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Assessor to join our team. As a Senior Assessor, you will work with a team of scientists to manage all aspects of environmental assessments for existing and proposed new uses of ag-vet chemicals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate hazard data and undertake exposure assessments to make recommendations on the risks associated with ag-vet chemicals.
  • Provide expert advice to internal and external stakeholders on environmental matters related to ag-vet chemicals.
  • Assist in making regulatory decisions in accordance with legislation.
  • Prepare high-level written material incorporating scientific/technical considerations to contribute to briefs to decision makers.
  • Undertake special projects related to environmental safety.
Requirements
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications relevant to the assessment of environmental toxicology or exposure assessment.
  • A sound knowledge of the regulatory framework in which the APVMA operates.
  • Ability to balance workflows and prioritise workloads and tasks to deliver high-quality outcomes in a timely manner.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with proven ability to evaluate and provide pragmatic advice on complex information.
  • Ability to work in a team environment using effective interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with demonstrable evidence of well-developed written communication skills.
Desirable Criteria
  • Postgraduate qualifications in chemistry, environmental toxicology, agricultural or animal science or related biological sciences.
