About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled System Accountant to join our Internal Budgets and FMIS Section in the Finance and Procurement Branch. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of the Assistant Director to manage the Financial Management Information System (FMIS) at the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure that processes supporting business as usual operations are configured correctly, including access management, ledger maintenance, and budget module administration.
  • Update and maintain system variables, organisation and natural account hierarchies, XLOne reports, dashboards, and mapping tables as required.
  • Monitor the FMIS, troubleshoot when necessary, and provide support to end users.
  • Develop and maintain documentation of the FMIS and associated processes.
  • Prepare materials for the Assistant Director in response to external audit queries and requests.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of solutions to address outstanding items or risks identified in previous audits.
  • Ensure that processes and controls are appropriately maintained and documented.
  • Develop and maintain continued working relationships with other business areas to enable ABS and external audit objectives to be met.
  • Develop test plans and undertake testing for new system patches.
Enhancing the FMIS
  • Work with stakeholders to understand user requirements and provide input and suggestions regarding the best way to configure the FMIS.
  • Review existing configuration and monitor the external environment for opportunities to improve the FMIS configuration.
  • Contribute to business improvements supported by the FMIS.
  • Provide guidance, advice, and information to the Assistant Director and the Director of Internal Budgets & FMIS as required.
  • Support and contribute to the implementation of continuous improvement within the team.
  • Actively assist junior staff within the team to build their skills and technical knowledge and capability.

Additional Desirable Key Skills/Personal Attributes
  • System administration experience, or experience with Technology One as an end user.
  • Experience in Government accounting roles.
  • Working toward or completed Bachelor of Commerce / Accounting / IT.
  • Working toward or attained CA / CPA.
