Data Analyst and Open Source Intelligence Specialist

ASIS is Australia's overseas secret intelligence collection agency. Its mission is to protect and promote Australia's vital interests through the provision of intelligence services as directed by the Government.

The role of Data Analyst and Open Source Intelligence Specialist involves collecting and interpreting information about specific topics of importance to ASIS. You will identify and describe trends or patterns in complex data sets or geographic areas, explore and implement effective collection methodologies, monitor and analyze online media platforms, social media and other sources of information, and work with stakeholders to understand and prioritize information needs.

As a Data Analyst and Open Source Intelligence Specialist, you will have the opportunity to develop and lead a variety of projects. You will contribute to building experience as a data or open source analyst under the guidance of a more senior practitioner, access training and upskilling courses as well as ASIS specific training, and demonstrate proficiency in coding languages such as Python for data analysis.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Collect and interpret information about specific topics of importance to ASIS;
  • Identify and describe trends or patterns in complex data sets or geographic areas;
  • Explore and implement effective collection methodologies;
  • Monitor and analyze online media platforms, social media and other sources of information;
  • Work with stakeholders to understand and prioritize information needs;
  • Create reports and presentations to communicate findings to stakeholders;
  • Demonstrate proficiency in coding languages such as Python for data analysis.
