Job Description

The Patient Flow Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth flow of patients through the healthcare system. This involves coordinating admissions and staffing resources, as well as monitoring and reviewing existing patient placements to optimize bed utilization.

The successful candidate will provide leadership and operational management of admissions and staffing resources, working closely with Clinical Nurse Unit Managers and other Hospital Coordinators to achieve maximum efficiency and effectiveness.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating patient flow in a timely manner
  • Monitoring and reviewing existing patient placements
  • Building and maintaining relationships with other facilities to ensure seamless transfer of care
  • Liaising with case managers regarding transfer of patients from other organizations
  • Optimizing bed utilization across different areas
  • Collaborating with Nurse Unit Managers, VMOs, and Deputy Director of Clinical Services (DDCS) to drive efficiency and effectiveness
  • Managing the casual pool portfolio
  • Assessing clinical, administrative, and financial risk associated with transfer requests from other facilities
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A Registered Nurse (Level 4 RN) qualification with at least 3 years' experience
  • AHPRA registration with a current practicing certificate
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
  • High-level communication and public relations skills
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships
  • Experience in a management or similar role
  • Management qualification (desirable)
  • Knowledge of health funding arrangements (desirable)
