Job Title

The Wansolmoana Connect Officer will work collaboratively with Pasifika staff to learn, develop and share information, participate in hosting AM visits, and contribute to broader planning work around First Nations strategic initiatives and programs.

Key responsibilities include delivering the Wansolmoana Connect program, related initiatives for Pasifika communities, youth (including students) in diaspora in NSW to connect with the AM's Pasifika Collections and the new Pasifika Gallery, titled Wansolmoana. This role is involved in coordination and engagement opportunities for Pasifika communities.

  • Deliver meaningful participation opportunities for Pasifika community members and youth.
  • Engage with, and expand understanding of Pasifika peoples, science, history, and knowledge.
  • Provide creative support, coordination, and engagement opportunities for Pasifika communities, youth (including students) in diaspora in NSW.
Requirements

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in community liaison, cultural heritage, youth work, social work or similar field, particularly with Pasifika communities and youth.
  • Well established relationships with the Pasifika diaspora community in NSW, and the ability to maintain effective relationships with Elders, community, stakeholders, and industry.
  • Administrative, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Pacific Islander descent - Pacific Islander descent is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (i.e. cultural heritage, youth work, community development, social work, etc.) and/or extensive work experience in the Pasifika community and youth sectors.
