Position Overview

This pivotal role involves collaborating with agricultural stakeholders and natural resource management organizations to facilitate ongoing ecological assessments within temperate woodland ecosystems across various regions of Australia. The focus will be on enhancing outreach efforts with natural resource management personnel, Landcare networks, and farmers engaged in the Sustainable Farms initiative.

Multiple opportunities are available to contribute to our long-term ecological monitoring efforts.

Candidate Profile

We seek an individual who possesses a genuine enthusiasm for ecological research pertaining to wildlife and vegetation in temperate woodlands, along with a commitment to conservation within agricultural settings. A relevant degree in ecological or conservation science, or agriculture, coupled with applicable field experience in temperate woodlands, is essential. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in both qualitative and quantitative research methods, with experience in conducting comprehensive flora and fauna surveys in temperate woodland ecosystems or similar environments.

The successful candidate must be prepared to travel outside of standard hours and work in remote areas as necessary, including extended field camps lasting up to three weeks. Preferred office locations include Canberra or Wodonga.

About the Fenner School of Environment & Society

The Fenner School of Environment & Society is dedicated to conducting interdisciplinary research and education focused on complex interactions between environmental and societal systems. The Sustainable Farms initiative is a collaborative research and outreach program aimed at enhancing natural features on farms in temperate woodlands, promoting biodiversity, increasing agricultural profitability, and improving farmer well-being. The successful candidate will provide research support and guidance for the initiatives and policy activities undertaken by Sustainable Farms.
