Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Microsoft Full time
Overview

Microsoft's Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the backbone of our cloud platforms and services used by millions every day. With over 95% of Fortune 500 businesses on Azure, 180 million using Office 365, and millions more utilizing other services – all running on Microsoft's cloud infrastructure – CO+I designs, builds, and operates the foundation for our mission to empower every person and organization.

The CO+I Physical Security team, organized within Core Operations Functions (COF), aims to deliver the most trustworthy security program to protect personnel, infrastructure, data, and confidential information critical to Microsoft Cloud operations. With over 200 datacenters across 32 countries and millions of servers, our mission is to be the most reliable, rigorous, and trusted physical security provider of hyperscale cloud infrastructure. We take pride in being accountable stewards of our awesome responsibility and strive to innovate, optimize, and create a collaborative ecosystem.

About the Role

We are seeking a mission-driven Datacenter Security Operations Manager to oversee physical security operations at our datacenters. The successful candidate will be supported by a vendor team that provides global security operations assistance.

This role involves communicating security events and programs, contributing to Site Specific Post Orders (SSPOs), coordinating with regional security resources, Datacenter Operations Program Managers, Datacenter Construction Project Managers, and regional leadership. Additionally, you will partner with security services vendors to ensure protection of critical information, personnel, and facilities. As the sole area-based COF security representative, you will facilitate security compliance initiatives, including assurance reviews and audits.

Responsibilities

You will collaborate with teams across Microsoft and supplier partners to deliver and continuously improve security operations at Microsoft datacenters. Key responsibilities include:

  • Implementing physical security policies and procedures, ensuring Microsoft's physical security vendor has necessary resources and information to meet Microsoft and customer requirements.
  • Partnering with datacenter operations, security systems, and other stakeholders to ensure secure and continuous operations while maintaining a One Team, One Microsoft environment.
  • Improving the efficiency and maturity of the overall physical security program at Microsoft datacenters, identifying opportunities to reduce churn, optimize resources, implement creative solutions, scale, automate, and simplify processes whenever possible.
  • Demonstrating and promoting a Microsoft culture that supports talent attraction, development, and retention; delivering results through teamwork; and role-modeling our values with a passion for diversity and inclusion.
  • Collaborating with local vendor guard force management to drive training objectives focused on providing enhanced industry-leading certified Datacenter Security Protection Professionals.
Security Leadership

You will function as a physical security subject matter expert, operating independently and representing the regional physical security team. This involves partnering and collaborating with regional peers, leaders, and stakeholders to maintain a One Team, One Microsoft environment.

  • Serving as the area COF security representative, ensuring operations teams and related security vendors successfully represent Microsoft during internal, external, and customer audits.
  • Providing a holistic security program approach, offering integrated support to regional evaluation, design, project management, and operational leadership resources from conception to decommissioning.
  • Facilitating field site visits to assess physical security posture and site safety; collaborating with peer colleagues at other datacenters to review, assess, and share best practices; documenting issues identified and following through on recommendations to resolution.
  • Receiving escalations/notifications of physical security and business-impacting events, triaging them, keeping regional leadership informed, and ensuring necessary personnel respond effectively.
  • Directly engaging with security integrators supporting physical security system maintenance and troubleshooting.
Insider Threat Mitigation

You will provide localized expertise to recognize key indicators of an insider threat, facilitating analysis with regional and program-level resources to identify specific threat profiles and actors. This includes promoting awareness and continuous learning to mitigate insider threats, empowering the workforce to be force multipliers in our all-organization holistic mitigation strategy.

We strive to focus policies, procedures, and training on enhancing Microsoft's prevention, deterrence, and advanced detection capabilities to create a distinct program differentiator from competitors.
