General Gardener Job Description

This is a skilled and experienced gardener position that involves maintaining our playgrounds, parks, and streetscapes contracts. The ideal candidate will have landscape maintenance experience and/or trade qualifications in Parks & Gardens or Horticulture.

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining trees during their establishment period
  • Pruning and hedging of plants
  • Replacing trees, plants, and mulch in garden beds
  • Keeping gardens weed free
  • Maintaining large turf areas with ride on mowers, whipper snippers, and edgers
  • Setting up and following traffic management plans
  • Blowing down pathways
  • Performing general tidy-ups to ensure the playground, parks, and streetscapes are safe
  • Documenting and reporting equipment faults
Requirements:
  • Landscape maintenance experience and/or trade qualification in Parks & Gardens or Horticulture (preferred but not essential)
  • Experience with ride on mowers, blowers, hedgers, whipper snippers, hand tools, and power tools (preferred but not essential)
  • Experience working with trees
  • First Aid Certificate (an advantage)
  • Traffic Management Qualification (an advantage)
  • Proof of right to work in Australia
  • Strong commitment to safe work practices
  • High level of personal work standards
  • Ability to work independently and have excellent time management skills
  • Capacity to work in all weather conditions
