Job Description

The National Operations team plays a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of effective, consistent and targeted regulatory operations to organisations within a specific jurisdiction.

As a national regulator, the team promotes continuous improvements in work health and safety practices through monitoring and compliance activities under the Work Health and Safety Act (WHS Act). The goal is to achieve safer and healthier workplaces.

About the Role

The Senior Director, National Operations leads multifaceted geographically diverse teams and ensures the delivery of high quality, consistent and effective regulatory operations that are national and international in nature. These operations often involve politically sensitive matters, and are conducted under the WHS Act, WHS Regulations and relevant Comcare policy and guidelines.

The Senior Director, National Operations oversees complex WHS investigations, making decisions on escalation and de-escalation of matters. This involves providing high-quality regulatory advice, analysis and assurance to the executive body.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure national consistency in regulatory operational delivery across regions, identifying emerging WHS risks and overseeing compliance activities with national/international implications.
  • Deliver an integrated program of compliance activities, targeting WHS issues or entities within the jurisdiction that pose significant risk to worker health and safety.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including state and territory jurisdictions, unions and national employers, to address WHS concerns and promote a culture of safety.
Mandatory Qualifications

Three plus years' leadership experience in a regulatory, compliance, law enforcement, work health and safety or mental health environment.

Eligibility and Specific Conditions of Employment

Character clearance, employee health declaration and six months probationary period for new engagements. Ability to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 Security Clearance.
