About the Role
This is a key position within our Equity and Inclusion team that will drive proactive approaches and develop solutions to staff discrimination, sexual harassment, victimisation, vilification and related complaints handling and reporting processes.
The successful candidate will work with the Equity and Inclusion leadership to facilitate policy development, governance activities and executive briefings on matters of strategic importance.
This role manages a Project Officer direct report to support team objectives and provides high-level advice and support to the Executive Director, Equity and Inclusion.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and oversee the flow of staff complaints and enquiries, including preliminary assessment of complaints, consulting with key stakeholders as required, case management and recordkeeping.
- Lead the University's response to complaints, made by both students and staff, via external bodies such as the Australian Human Rights Commission, Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission, VCAT, or the Victorian Ombudsman.
- Oversight of effective and efficient programs and initiatives that support and uphold the University's Positive Duty obligations, including the Harassment and Discrimination Contact Officer (HDCO) Network.
- Development and review of policies and procedures relevant to Equity & Inclusion to ensure they are consistent with the University's objectives and legislation and are kept current, in accordance with the University's Policy Framework.
Requirements
- A postgraduate qualification or progress towards one, along with extensive relevant experience, or extensive experience and management expertise, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Experience in receiving and responding to complaints of discrimination, sexual harassment, victimisation and vilification or related area.
- Experience designing effective solutions to complex problems.
- Extensive experience in program and project management and delivery.
