Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Nuclear and/or Maritime Engineering

The School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering seeks a passionate academic to join our Mechanical Engineering discipline as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor equivalent). This opportunity enables specialist contributions to world-leading research and teaching in nuclear and/or maritime engineering.

In this role, you will:

  • Teach and develop courses in areas such as submarine design, naval architecture, nuclear engineering, radiation detection, nuclear safety, thermal-fluids, propulsion systems, and maritime technologies.
  • Conduct high-quality research in collaboration with a vibrant academic team working on naval nuclear propulsion, systems engineering, hydroacoustics, experiments, modelling, simulation, hydrodynamics, and energy technologies.
  • Engage with industry, government, and academic partners to drive innovation in nuclear and maritime sectors.

Candidates with a strong research track record or significant industry experience are encouraged to apply. Interdisciplinary collaboration is central to this role, and the successful applicant will contribute to both undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

To be successful at Level B, you will need a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or equivalent, with expertise in nuclear and/or maritime engineering. You must also have demonstrated research ability, a record of research achievements, and the ability to teach effectively using evidence-based pedagogy that promotes student learning.

Suitable applicants for Senior Lecturer (Level C) positions will have a substantial record of research achievements, demonstrated ability to win significant research funding, substantial record of success in effective teaching, and the ability to develop courses in nuclear and maritime engineering.
