About Angaara

A well-established traditional Indian restaurant in VIC, specialising in Tandoori and Curries, is seeking a highly skilled Chef to join their expanding team.

The Role

You will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, displaying your creativity in dish creation. You will also have the chance to progress through the ranks at the restaurant.

This is a full-time role with an annual salary of $73,000-74,000 plus superannuation.

Responsibilities
  1. Manage and supervise culinary staff, including cooks and food preparation workers.
  2. Inspect ingredient levels, raw food supplies, and other materials to ensure optimum stock levels.
  3. Place orders for required supplies and make necessary requisitions for stock, frozen food items, beverages, and other materials.
  4. Inspect received products for quality, quantity, and attributes.
  5. Schedule food production and manage operations using resources and materials efficiently.
  6. Assist kitchen staff in overall kitchen operations to ensure timely service.
  7. Observe methods of food preparation used by the food preparation team to ensure consistency.
  8. Designate and assign duties based on personal capacity and capabilities.
  9. Inspect cooking appliances for cleanliness, functionality, and usability.
  10. Perform inventory duties, including stock rotation.
  11. Work with management to assign prices to menu items based on labour, ingredients, and overhead costs.
  12. Guide and mentor employees, identifying and providing solutions for issues and grievances.
  13. Ensure high levels of cleanliness, organisation, storage, and sanitation.
Requirements
  • Strong food knowledge and skills in authentic Indian cuisine.
  • Relevant qualifications in cookery or hospitality.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Chef in a similar role.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in tandoori cooking.
  • Ability to work with proteins like beef, lamb, and seafood.
  • Passion for great food and presentation.
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, food safety.
  • Experience in kitchen operations and managing a team.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
