Role Summary

You will expand your skills and knowledge working as a Registrar in mental health under the guidance of a consultant psychiatrist.

This role offers an opportunity to work with leading clinicians and develop your clinical skills and confidence.

Working alongside experienced professionals, you will contribute to all aspects of patient care and develop your leadership skills through supervising documentation and coordinating multidisciplinary management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Patient Care Management: Manage patient care under the direction of a consultant psychiatrist, defining boundaries of clinical responsibility at the commencement of each term or unit attachment.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Contribute to all aspects of clinical care of patients, working closely with nursing staff, allied health professionals, and other clinicians both onsite and offsite.
  • Documentation and Supervision: Lead or supervise documentation of all relevant details of patients' care while in hospital, including admission history and examination, results of investigations, care plan, interdisciplinary consultation advice, and follow-up plans.
  • Initial Assessment: See newly admitted patients within 1 hour of their arrival and ensure that the 8-page initial assessment is available for every patient on admission.
  • Treatment Planning: Ensure that the Treatment, Support and Discharge (TSD) plan is completed for every client admitted to your team.
  • Leadership and Supervision: Supervise the work of RMOs working for your team and take responsibility for the physical health issues of patients under your care.
  • Clinical Consultation: Coordinate multidisciplinary management of patients, including consultation requests for Allied Health or other medical specialties and nurse case managers.
  • Counseling and Communication: Counsel patients and family members regarding clinical findings, prognosis, and care plans.
  • MEDICATION MANAGEMENT: Prescribe drugs for inpatients, write owing prescriptions, and authority prescriptions in a timely manner.
  • Discharge Planning: Contribute to discharge planning of each patient, arranging dispensation of discharge medications with pharmacist.
