As a Research Assistant, you will be part of a collaborative effort with the University of Sydney and the Sydney Children's Hospital Network to make a difference in the lives of children living with genetic diseases.

The role involves designing, cloning, producing, purifying and using recombinant and replication-competent viral vectors, such as adeno-associated viral vectors (AAV) and lentiviral vectors (LVV), for gene therapy.

You will also maintain and manipulate mammalian cell types, including immortalized and pluripotent cells, under BSL2/2+ conditions, and perform basic molecular biology assays, including plasmid and genomic DNA purification, molecular cloning, and PCR techniques.

Additionally, you will undertake routine tasks related to laboratory maintenance and preparation of standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent
  • At least 2 years of experience in general molecular biology and mammalian tissue culture techniques
  • Strong interpersonal skills and attention to details, as well as the ability/will to improve professional knowledge
  • Prior hands-on experience working with viral vectors, mammalian cell cultures, and stem cell cultures
  • Experience working with animal models is a plus but is not required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, is required
