The role of a pharmacy fill technician involves preparing prescriptions accurately, including picking, labeling, scanning, and final preparation for pharmacist verification.

Responsibilities:
  • Pull/pick medications from shelving and other medication storage areas to ensure timely delivery to patients.
  • Verify the accuracy of prescription preparation before presenting it to the pharmacist.
  • Fully stock shelves with pre-packaged medications as needed.
  • Assist in processing returned medications, recycling or disposing of them according to procedure.
  • Pre-pack frequently ordered medications, label and stock them as required during low-volume times.
  • Handle package materials and products manually.
  • Maintain compliance with government regulations, particularly HIPAA standards.
  • Ensure clean/organized workstation areas and replenish all necessary supplies each shift.
  • Alert the pharmacist on duty to any medication/product that is not scanning properly.
  • Adhere to departmental policies regarding safety, attendance, and dress code.
  • Be prepared to work overtime, holidays, and weekends as required.
Qualifications:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is essential for this position.
  • Pharmacy technician licenses/certifications are mandatory as per state regulations and practice requirements.
  • Previous pharmacy experience is necessary, preferably in long-term care settings.
  • Knowledge of brand name/generic medications is crucial for accurate prescribing.
  • Excellent reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension skills in English are required.
  • Ability to work at a moderate speed and prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Reliability and adaptability are key qualities for success in this role.
  • Good organization and attention to detail are vital for maintaining patient records and ensuring accurate medication dispensing.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary for resolving medication discrepancies and addressing patient concerns.
  • Light lifting may be required, but must be done safely and within physical capabilities.
Physical Demands:
  • This role requires prolonged periods of sitting or standing, potentially up to 10 hours daily.
  • Occasional need to sit, climb/balance, stoop/kneel, bend, crouch, walk, or crawl while performing job duties.
  • Extended working hours may be necessary, especially during peak periods or emergencies.
  • May need to lift/move objects weighing up to 50 pounds safely.
