Job Description

As a Risk Specialist, you will play a crucial role in implementing the risk management standard and procedure across various business functions. Your primary responsibility will be to support the business in identifying, assessing, and managing risks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a rolling risk plan that focuses on key risk activities, including reporting, risk deep dives, risk assessments, training, and improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with risk reporting and analysis for senior leaders, executives, and the audit and risk committee.
  • Build a network of risk practitioners across the business and support a community of practice, enabling risk and control owners to share lessons and collaborate on technical risk topics.
  • Be recognized as the subject matter expert in risk management, providing guidance and support to stakeholders across the business.
  • Facilitate risk workshops using Sandfire's risk assessment methodologies and techniques, such as BowTie Analysis.
  • Provide specialist input and support to group functions and assets in building their first-line assurance programs over material risks.
  • Assess the implementation and maturity of risk activities across functions and assets, identifying areas for further improvement.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Commercial and/or engineering degree.
  • Experience designing and implementing risk management, preferably within a mining context.
  • Expertise in facilitating risk workshops, performing risk deep dives, and BowTie Analysis.
  • Specialized knowledge in applying risk assessment criteria and matrices.
  • Ability to design and implement risk assurance activities as part of risk function support to risk owners.
  • Risk reporting and the use of risk technologies, including contemporary practices associated with reporting risk trends and themes.
  • Working knowledge of 1st and 2nd line assurance related to risks.
  • Track record of working with teams to develop a risk culture that values continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and risk management systems and their interrelationships with enterprise risk management.
  • Strong understanding of ISO 45001, ISO 9001, and ISO 31000 standards.
  • Exposure to risk facilitation technology applications and how they can be used when assessing risks.
  • Excellent process and control mapping skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Solid understanding of risk and control taxonomies.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written presentation skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to drive initiatives through collaboration and out-of-the-box thinking.
