Aboriginal Health Practitioner or Registered Nurse Opportunity

About the Role

The Aboriginal Health Practitioner (AHP) or Registered Nurse plays a vital role in providing high-quality primary health care to our clients. You will be responsible for providing comprehensive and culturally appropriate primary health care to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people of the Greater Darwin Area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide primary health care to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, utilising standard treatment manuals.
  • Work closely with other health practitioners within the organisation and the community to achieve shared goals.
  • Maintain cultural integrity and advocate for clients' needs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Nursing and/or Certificate IV in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Practice).
  • Current registration as an AHP/Nurse with the relevant authority.
  • Demonstrated understanding and/or experience in providing primary health care, including awareness of and sensitivity to Aboriginal culture and history.
  • Well-developed written, verbal and interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate sensitively in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organisational skills and demonstrated ability to plan, manage and prioritise tasks.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including experience using clinical practice software.
  • Remote health experience and/or emergency care experience.
  • Experience working in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service or similar environment.
Additional Requirements
  • Full vaccination against COVID-19 or an exemption as listed on the Australian Immunisation Register.
  • Current CPR certificate or preparedness to gain one within 6 months of commencement.
  • Full rights to work in Australia.
