About the Role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Senior Psychiatric Nurse to contribute to an impactful Aboriginal Community Program (Wadamba Wilam) within Northern Health.
This position is a permanent part-time role, requiring commitment for 4 days a week.
Your New Team:
Breaking the Cycle: Reducing Homelessness Initiative (Wadamba Wilam)
- Wadamba Wilam is a collaborative effort involving NEAMI, Uniting Care Re Gen, the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS), and the Northern Area Mental Health Service (NAMHS).
- The team provides a comprehensive, culturally sensitive outreach service aimed at enhancing the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal individuals aged 16 and above in designated urban areas.
- Our services cater to clients facing complex challenges, including severe mental health issues and homelessness.
- We are committed to addressing the adverse effects of historical injustices on the mental health and wellbeing of Aboriginal Victorians.
Your Responsibilities:
- Deliver expert psychiatric clinical leadership, ensuring culturally safe services for Aboriginal individuals and their families.
- Conduct thorough mental health assessments and interventions that are culturally appropriate.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and community partners, sharing knowledge and providing support.
- Assist individuals facing homelessness and engage with those experiencing disadvantage in the community.
About You:
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in evidence-based psychiatric treatment, particularly concerning Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health issues.
- Ability to work empathetically with individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
- Commitment to enhancing the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal peoples, utilizing the Social, Emotional, Wellbeing Model of Health Care (SEWB).
- Capability to develop and deliver mental health education and training for key stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills, fostering effective communication and relationships with diverse individuals.
- A genuine passion for learning and working alongside Aboriginal communities.
