The Opportunity:

An exciting position is available for a dedicated Senior Psychiatric Nurse to contribute to an impactful Aboriginal Community Program (Wadamba Wilam) within Northern Health.

This role is permanent Part Time, requiring a commitment of 4 days a week.

Your New Team:

Breaking the Cycle: Reducing Homelessness Initiative (Wadamba Wilam)

  • Wadamba Wilam represents a collaborative effort involving NEAMI, Uniting Care Re Gen, the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS), and the Northern Area Mental Health Service (NAMHS).
  • The team provides a comprehensive, culturally sensitive outreach service aimed at enhancing the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal individuals aged 16 and above in specific urban areas.
  • Our services cater to clients facing complex challenges, including severe mental health issues and homelessness.
  • We are committed to addressing the adverse effects of historical injustices on the mental health and wellbeing of Aboriginal Victorians.

The Role:

  • Deliver expert psychiatric clinical leadership focused on providing culturally appropriate services to Aboriginal individuals and their families.
  • Conduct thorough mental health assessments and interventions that respect cultural contexts.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and collaborative efforts with team members and partner organizations.
  • Support individuals grappling with homelessness and advocate for those facing social disadvantages.

About You:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in evidence-based psychiatric treatment, particularly concerning the health challenges faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Ability to engage sensitively with individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
  • Commitment to enhancing the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal populations through the Social, Emotional, Wellbeing Model of Health Care (SEWB).
  • Proficiency in developing and delivering mental health education and training for key stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the capacity to build effective relationships and communicate clearly with diverse individuals.
  • A genuine passion for learning and collaborating with Aboriginal communities.
