Opportunity Overview
An exciting opportunity is available for a dedicated Lead Psychiatric Nurse to contribute to an inspiring Aboriginal Community Program (Wadamba Wilam) within the Northern Health framework.
This position is a permanent part-time role, requiring a commitment of 4 days per week.
Your New Team
Breaking the Cycle: Initiative for Reducing Homelessness (Wadamba Wilam)
- The Wadamba Wilam program is a collaborative effort involving NEAMI, Uniting Care Re Gen, the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS), and the Northern Area Mental Health Service (NAMHS).
- The Wadamba Wilam team provides a comprehensive, culturally sensitive outreach service aimed at enhancing the social and emotional well-being of Aboriginal individuals aged 16 and above, in specific urban areas.
- This service addresses the needs of clients facing complex challenges, including severe mental health issues and homelessness.
- Engage with us in addressing the adverse effects of historical injustices on the mental health and overall well-being of Aboriginal Victorians.
Role Responsibilities:
- Deliver expert psychiatric clinical leadership focused on providing culturally safe services to Aboriginal individuals and their families.
- Conduct evidence-based and culturally appropriate mental health assessments, interventions, and treatments within Aboriginal communities.
- Share expertise, offer support, and collaborate effectively with Wadamba Wilam team members and partner organizations.
- Assist individuals facing homelessness and commit to supporting those in disadvantaged situations within the community.
Candidate Profile:
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in evidence-based psychiatric treatment and an understanding of the broader health and mental health challenges affecting the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Proven ability to work sensitively and effectively with individuals experiencing homelessness and housing crises.
- Commitment to enhancing the health and well-being of Aboriginal individuals, adhering to the Social, Emotional, and Wellbeing Model of Health Care (SEWB).
- Capacity to develop and implement mental health education and training for key stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to foster effective relationships and communicate clearly with diverse populations.
- A genuine passion for learning and working collaboratively with Aboriginal communities.
