Boat Ramp Survey Officer Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Boat Ramp Survey Officer on the Gold Coast.

The successful candidate will partner with the Queensland Government to recruit and collect data from recreational fishers at boat ramps. Our client leads fisheries policy development, balancing conservation and commercial fishing sectors.

This is an exciting opportunity for an angler who can identify various species and comfortably engage with fellow fishers at boat ramps. You will use a tablet for data collection via an online platform.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Conduct interviews with recreational fishers at boat ramps to gather information about their trips
  • Identify, count, and measure over 40 species of fish
  • Adhere to interview protocols and record data accurately
  • Maintain clear and polite communication with recreational fishers
  • Work collaboratively with the team

Key Capabilities:

  • Foster strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with the general public
  • Record data clearly and accurately
  • Be punctual and reliable, maintaining effective communication with offsite supervisors
  • Safely climb onto boats and assess risk

Essential Requirements:

  • Punctuality and reliability due to independent work nature
  • Ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of commonly caught species or possess existing expertise
  • Develop a friendly and approachable personality
  • Access to a vehicle and current Queensland C-class driver's license
  • Mobile phone
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and weekdays
