Position Overview
The Young Parents Program (YPP) is dedicated to assisting young parents aged 13-25 years and their children during the Residential Stage of the program. This initiative aims to support very young parents facing complex challenges by fostering independent parenting and living skills through tailored case management, behavioral support, and direct parenting assistance, ensuring optimal outcomes for their children. Additionally, the program facilitates and conducts educational sessions for parents.
As an Occupational Therapist, you will collaborate with young parents and their children to enhance child development and parenting results. Your role will involve coordinating, developing, and implementing assessments and interventions focused on children and young individuals, while considering the unique challenges faced by young parents involved in the program.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- A degree or qualification in Occupational Therapy with at least 2 years of post-graduate experience, or equivalent relevant qualifications and experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge acquired through experience, training, or education in implementing and coordinating child development strategies.
- Proficient knowledge and experience with ASQ and ASQ:SE tools for monitoring and evaluating child development outcomes.
- Familiarity with NDIS functional assessments and the application process.
- Proven experience working with parents to enhance parenting and child development outcomes, both individually and in group settings.
- Practical experience in delivering parent education programs, including Circle of Security and other attachment-focused initiatives.
- Experience working with marginalized communities.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, demonstrating respect and understanding.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Registration on the Residential Care Workers Register.
- Vaccination against whooping cough.
- Valid Working with Children Check.
- A current driver's license.
