About You :

  • A Bachelor of Occupational Therapy or equivalent qualification is required.
  • You will need to have a current driver's licence and own transport.
  • A Working with Children Check and National Police Check are also mandatory.
  • NDIS worker clearance and a CPR and First Aid Certificate are essential.

Position Summary :

As an Occupational Therapist at the Therapy and Learning Centre, you will be responsible for providing occupational therapy services to children from 0-18 years. You will work with children to identify their unique needs and develop strategies to promote their physical, cognitive, social, and emotional well-being.

Our clinical team provides a multi-disciplinary service to help children improve their functional abilities, achieve meaningful participation in their everyday settings, and enhance their quality of life. We support families in identifying and building on a child's strengths, interests, and capabilities while delivering excellence in care.

Key Requirements :

  • Previous occupational therapy experience is preferred.
  • You will need to have specific skills in managing fine motor development, sensory processing, visual perception, and motor planning skills.
  • Demonstrated time management and organisational skills and the ability to coordinate an assigned caseload are essential.
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with internal and external stakeholders are required.
  • You will need to be able to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team and provide patient-centred practice.
  • Punctuality, reliability, and commitment are essential.
  • Exceptional attention to detail is required.
  • Good computer skills required for the company practice management software are necessary.
  • The ability to follow direction and take initiative is essential.

Job Responsibilities :

Professional Conduct :

  • You will work as part of a team of health professionals to provide a multi-disciplinary care plan to improve a person's health.
  • You will need to communicate highly sensitive, complex information while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • You will use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication methods to progress treatment programs.

Quality of Service Delivery :

  • You will conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate a client's physical, cognitive, social, and emotional abilities against an appropriate developmental expectation.
  • You will collaborate with clients and their caregivers to set goals and targets to be achieved.
  • You will develop and implement individualised treatment plans based on the assessment findings, incorporating therapeutic exercises and other appropriate interventions to assist clients to achieve their goals.
  • You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams involved with the client, such as physiotherapists, speech therapists, psychologists, medical professionals, teachers, and caregivers, to ensure a holistic approach to client care.
  • You will provide ongoing monitoring and re-assessment of clients' progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • You will educate and train parents, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals on appropriate techniques and strategies to promote carry-over of therapy goals into the child's daily life.
  • You will pay meticulous attention to detail in writing reports.
  • You will ensure clients are suitably supported with necessary reports, letters, and correspondence.

Compliance :

  • You will maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of client assessments, goals, treatment notes in accordance with professional standards and regulatory requirements in client management software.
  • You will complete handover or discharge summary when a client changes therapist or service.
  • You will comply with regular audits and reviews to assess compliance with documentation, safety, and infection control protocols.
  • You will adhere to safety procedures.
  • You will identify risks, report, and document in line with policies and procedures.
  • You will be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of your own work, including the management of patients in your care.
  • You will assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent, and work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
  • You will work within local and national guidelines and protocols.

Professional Development :

  • You will stay informed regarding the latest research, evidence-based practices, and advancements in occupational therapy, applying this knowledge appropriately.
  • You will participate in regular team meetings, case conferences, and professional development activities to enhance clinical skills and foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • You will share ideas and improvements for the business with senior therapists and management.
  • You will seek feedback and guidance through learning from more experienced therapists, to ensure industry best practice is maintained.
  • You will develop and maintain relationships with referral sources, such as other allied health professionals, medical professionals, and educators.

Productivity :

  • You will achieve 80% billable hours/week.
  • You will ensure all client-related activities are billed.
  • You will ensure all clients have ongoing or review appointments booked.
  • You will manage workload, communications, appointments, and deadlines.

Physical Environment :

  • You will clean all equipment before and after every client session.
  • You will report any breakages to senior therapists or management.
  • You will ensure rooms are kept tidy and presentable at all times.
