Health Safety and Environment Specialist Role

The Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Specialist position is a pivotal role that requires expertise in health, safety, and environmental management.

As a crucial member of the HSE team, you will be responsible for promoting a culture of safety and care within the organization.

Responsibilities:
  • Educate site workers on hazard identification and promote the See Say Do process to reduce incidents.
  • Carry out project consultation processes, including site inductions and pre-start/toolbox meetings.
  • Recommend corrective/preventive actions to prevent hazards from escalating into incidents.
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective/preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Disseminate WHSE information across the project as required.
  • Assist with preparation, development, and review of construction methodology and SWMS in consultation with project management, subcontractors, and workers.
  • Conduct formal weekly HSE inspections and daily work-in-progress inspections to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Review on-site work practices, materials, plant, and equipment to identify WHSE hazards.
  • Support the Return to Work Coordinator by ensuring Return to Work Plans are in place and managed for injured workers.
Qualifications/About You:
  • Minimum of 2 years' operational experience in a HSE Advisor role or similar.
  • Working knowledge of WHS Act, Regulations, Codes of Practice, Australian Standards, and their application in the construction industry.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills on a technical level.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize key activities.
