Fire Development Officer

The Fire Development Officer will play a critical role in supporting Indigenous Rangers in their fire management roles across the Kimberley region. This position will involve mentoring and training Indigenous Rangers to develop their skills and knowledge in fire management, as well as supporting them in their roles as fire officers.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and deliver training programs for Indigenous Rangers in fire management and leadership skills
- Mentor and support Indigenous Rangers in their fire management roles, including providing guidance on fire planning and operations
- Work with Indigenous Ranger teams to develop and implement fire management plans that meet the needs of the community and the environment
- Support Indigenous Rangers in their roles as fire officers, including providing guidance on fire suppression and emergency response
- Collaborate with other stakeholders, including government agencies and community groups, to support Indigenous fire management initiatives
- Qualification in conservation, land management, or a related field
- Experience in fire management and leadership, particularly in Indigenous contexts
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with Indigenous communities and other stakeholders
- Ability to travel extensively throughout the Kimberley region, including by air and in helicopters
- 4WD competence and a valid manual driver's license
