Fire Development Officer

About the Role:
The Fire Development Officer will be responsible for mentoring and supporting Indigenous Rangers in fire management roles across the Kimberley region. This includes identifying, training, and mentoring Indigenous Rangers as they undertake landscape-scale fire management over their native title and project areas.
The successful candidate will develop a framework for training, mentoring, and providing career development opportunities for Indigenous Fire Officers, working with ranger teams across the Kimberley and northern great sandy desert regions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement training programs for Indigenous Fire Officers
- Mentor and advise Indigenous Fire Officers on fire management operations
- Provide career development opportunities for Indigenous Fire Officers
- Support Indigenous Fire Officers in developing individual fire management plans for Native Title holders
- Coordinate fire planning meetings and operational workshops with Kimberley Ranger Groups and stakeholders
Requirements:
- Qualification in conservation, land management, or fire control
- Experience in landscape fire management and Indigenous fire management
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with Indigenous communities and stakeholders
