Fire Development Officer

The Fire Development Officer will be responsible for mentoring and supporting a network of Indigenous Rangers as they take on fire officer roles within their teams across the Kimberley region.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and deliver training and support programs for Indigenous Fire Officers
- Mentor and advise Indigenous Fire Officers on fire operations and management
- Provide career development opportunities for Indigenous Fire Officers
- Support Indigenous Fire Officers in developing individual fire management plans for Native Title holders
- Coordinate fire planning meetings and operational workshops with Kimberley Ranger Groups and stakeholders
- Deliver on-the-job training and build the capacity of Indigenous Rangers in fire operations, prescribed burning, and fire suppression
- Work with Indigenous ranger teams to deliver their fire programs
- Support Indigenous Fire Officers in delivering community education sessions and workshops on savanna fire management and carbon projects
- Actively promote safe working practices across all activities
- Report all incidents and near misses in accordance with KLC policies and procedures
- Maintain a safe workspace and contribute to the health and safety of the workplace
- Ensure compliance by ranger groups with WHS, HR, and relevant legislation
- Comply with all internal KLC policies and procedures
- Demonstrate awareness of and commitment to the KLC Vision and Values
- Qualification in conservation, land management, fire control, or relevant experience
- Familiarity with savanna fire operations and their impact on greenhouse gas emissions
- Experience in landscape fire management and delivering one-on-one training and mentoring
- Highly organized with strong communication and project management skills
- Understanding of Aboriginal social and cultural challenges in Northern Australia
- Ability to work sensitively and effectively with Indigenous people
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Familiarity with GIS software and spatial data management
- Experience delivering projects in collaboration with a range of stakeholders
- 4WD competence and certification
- Self-starter with a can-do attitude and ability to work as part of a team
