We are seeking an experienced Technical Manager to join our Liability Claims team in Australia. The successful candidate will manage a complex portfolio of commercial line claims with high exposure across multiple jurisdictions, adhering to authority levels within the Long Tail business lines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a complex portfolio of commercial line claims with high exposure across multiple jurisdictions, adhering to authority levels within the Long Tail business lines.
  • Provide technical guidance and coaching to Claims Specialists, serving as a referral point for coverage, reserving, and payment decisions.
  • Engage with global 'large loss' teams as per authority procedures and uphold a 'no surprises' reporting philosophy.
  • Oversee the claims portfolio to ensure claims are handled efficiently, appropriately and in compliance with regulations.
  • Report and present complex loss and claims information to stakeholders, maximize recoverable income through proactive reinsurance engagement, and manage external service providers.
  • Support business development initiatives and keep abreast of claims and industry trends.
Requirements
  • Extensive experience in complex claims handling within relevant business lines, or a lawyer with a minimum of 7 years post-qualification in insurance litigation.
  • Deep technical knowledge of relevant business lines, including independent coverage assessment and a comprehensive understanding of the legal process.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence, alongside strong analytical, strategic, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Highly developed negotiation and investigation skills, with a capacity to effectively plan, prioritize, and manage tasks and resources.
  • Maintain current knowledge of insurance guidelines, legislation, and regulations, demonstrate proficiency with relevant systems and tools, and uphold a growth mindset with a commitment to ethics and professionalism.
