Operational Risk Management Specialist

This role supports APRA's Divisions in effectively managing technology and data risks by operationalising risk management, compliance, and resilience frameworks.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Improving and implementing APRA's risk management policies and frameworks;
  • Leveraging enterprise-wide risk assessments to identify technology and data risks;
  • Evaluating existing controls to mitigate technology and data risks, proposing enhancements where necessary;
  • Establishing an up-to-date view of key risks and the effectiveness of mitigating actions across APRA;
  • Sustaining APRA's risk culture by embedding it within daily operations;
  • Communicating the team's purpose and function under APRA's strategy;
  • Maintaining open communication with colleagues to foster a collaborative environment; and
  • Awareness of internal dynamics and effective stakeholder engagement.

Key qualifications for success include:

  • Strong understanding of risk management principles and practices;
  • Ability to identify risks and provide actionable recommendations;
  • Familiarity with technology risk, cybersecurity, data management, and associated regulatory frameworks;
  • Demonstrated experience in building relationships and influencing stakeholders;
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to inform decision-making;
  • Capacity to navigate ambiguity and develop problem-solving approaches;
  • Knowledge of emerging trends and ability to communicate them appropriately;
  • Personal integrity; and
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with peers, teams, and external partners.

Prioritised skills and qualifications include demonstrated expertise in technology risk, cybersecurity, data management, and regulatory frameworks, as well as strong analytical and communication abilities.
