Public Health Data Analyst

This is a part-time, fixed-term position that runs until June 30, 2025, with a hybrid work arrangement based on operational needs.
The role of Public Health Data Analyst at Grampians Health involves supporting data design, analytics, data-driven decision-making, and ensuring data integrity within the GPHU.
As part of a region-wide service, the Data Analyst supports the Grampians Health region. This position connects with the data surveillance, analysis, and synthesis efforts of various teams within the Department of Health's Public Health Division. Additionally, the role will assist with local data analytics, focusing on purpose-specific data or information from various sources to support GPHU's work in collaboration with key regional partners, including other health services, local government authorities, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations, the Western Victoria Primary Health Network, non-governmental organizations, and academic institutions.
As a member of the Grampians Public Health Unit, the Data Analyst will be responsible for data collection, analysis, and presentation related to health protection, prevention, and population health initiatives. This position will require clear interpretation, explanation, and visualization of multi-source population-level data to communicate population health priorities and opportunities for action effectively.
Key Responsibilities- Support data design, analytics, and data-driven decision-making within the GPHU.
- Ensure data integrity and quality within the GPHU.
- Collaborate with various teams within the Department of Health's Public Health Division.
- Assist with local data analytics and purpose-specific data or information from various sources.
- Present data collection, analysis, and presentation related to health protection, prevention, and population health initiatives.
- Qualifications in epidemiology, biostatistics, IT, computer science, engineering, or related fields, or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of public and population health concepts, analytics, monitoring systems, and data governance.
- Experience using data to inform actions in large organizations or public health settings.
- Proficiency in a programming language (R, SQL, Python) and tools like PowerBI, Databricks, or REDCap.
- Ability to manage, integrate, and interpret large data sets and synthesize complex information for diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in evaluating public health interventions and working both autonomously and as part of a team.
