Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Family Engagement Officer

We are seeking a dedicated and culturally sensitive professional to coordinate the development of language and cultural programs in our school. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the Yorta Yorta culture and community, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They will be responsible for establishing and maintaining partnerships with local organizations and community groups, coordinating and supporting the development of the Yorta Yorta language and cultural program.

The role requires a high level of professionalism, discretion, and sensitivity when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and staff. The successful candidate will be committed to ongoing professional learning and growth, and will be able to provide advice and support to management and other school staff in respect to the work area.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Family Engagement Officer will work collaboratively with teachers, education support staff, and other school stakeholders to develop and implement programs that reflect and respect the cultural heritage and values of the Yorta Yorta people.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the Victorian Curriculum and the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, as well as experience working in a school environment. They will be able to demonstrate their capacity to perform duties consistent with established guidelines and frameworks, including coordinating and supporting others in respect to specific work functions relevant to the role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the development of the Yorta Yorta language and cultural program
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with local organizations and community groups
  • Provide advice and support to management and other school staff in respect to the work area
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, education support staff, and other school stakeholders to develop and implement programs that reflect and respect the cultural heritage and values of the Yorta Yorta people
