Research Scholarships for Sustainable Futures

At the Institute for Sustainable Futures, we invite applications for a prestigious PhD research scholarship.

The successful candidate will contribute to advancing knowledge on energy transition mineral supply chains and decarbonisation outcomes.

This project aims to explore connections between supply scenarios for energy transition minerals and their impact on sustainable development.

The research will focus on understanding long-term mineral supply needed for renewable energy and battery technologies.

We seek a highly motivated individual with backgrounds in industrial ecology, material flow analysis, life cycle assessment, environmental engineering, geoscience, mineral processing, resource economics or scenario modelling.

The student will be supervised by experienced academics with expertise in sustainability research and scenario modelling.

Project Objectives:

The PhD project centres on advancing scenario modelling frameworks for understanding long-term mineral supply needed for renewable energy and battery technologies.

The project will explore boundary integration of the PEMMSS model with IAMs and emerging LCA modelling frameworks. This will provide pathways to understand mineral supply chain responses to different global decarbonisation trajectories and rates of renewable energy deployments.

This research project links with a broader research project on Future Transition Mineral Supply Dynamics. The student will be enrolled at the UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures, a transdisciplinary research institute creating change towards sustainable futures.
