Biomedical Research Assistant

A collaborative research opportunity has arisen in the Immunogenomics Lab to characterise activity of a small molecule inhibitor in mouse models of immunotherapy and radiotherapy. The successful applicant will work closely with clinician researchers and postdoctoral scientists to support progression of the drug to first-in-human clinical trials.
About the OpportunityThis is a 0.5 FTE, one-year fixed term position, with the possibility of extension, offering diverse opportunities for scientific and professional growth within a multidisciplinary team of scientists, clinicians, and project managers.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in pre-clinical mouse studies of cancer, including tissue culture, tumour inoculation, animal monitoring, sedation, oral gavage, intra-peritoneal injections, radiation, harvest, and biobanking.
- Conduct functional and genomics assays, including flow cytometry, microscopy, tissue culture, bulk or single-cell DNA, RNA, and protein sequencing assays.
- Lead pre-clinical mouse studies of arthritis, including colony management, mouse surgical procedures, and monitoring during testing of novel therapies developed in collaboration between Arthritis Immunogenomics and the Garvan Biologics Platform.
- Coordinate the receipt, processing, and secure biobanking of clinical samples and associated metadata, ensuring rigorous data management practices.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a Bachelor's Degree in a scientific discipline, First Class Honours or equivalent, and at least two years of formal experience with mouse pre-clinical studies, ideally including flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and cell-culture experiments.
