Peer Support Specialist Role Overview

The role of a Peer Support Specialist is to provide support and encouragement to individuals with psychiatric disabilities who have been involved with the criminal justice system.

This position requires a Certified Peer Specialist with lived experience of mental health recovery and/or substance use recovery. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will work one-on-one with clients from mental health courts, probation, forensic liaison, and shelters to develop reentry plans for a smooth transition back into the community.

You will engage with clients prior to release from jail to create personalized plans, and after release, provide ongoing support and practical assistance. Our services are based on the principles of recovery, promoting self-determination and overall well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one support to clients with psychiatric disabilities
  • Develop reentry plans for smooth transition back into the community
  • Engage clients prior to release from jail to create personalized plans
  • Provide ongoing support and practical assistance after release

Requirements:

  • Certified Peer Specialist with lived experience of mental health recovery and/or substance use recovery
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
