About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join our Layout AI team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for building and deploying machine learning models that enable our users to create amazing designs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop machine learning systems to generate designs, working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver cutting-edge design generation systems and techniques.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and effectively advocate for engineering needs to non-technical stakeholders within the group.
  • Model initiative and ownership in achieving goals, improving processes and solutions.
  • Identify opportunities for cross-team collaboration to work on new ideas and improvements that help achieve our goals.
Requirements
  • Strong industry experience in machine learning/software engineering with a Product/SaaS company; visual AI experience preferred.
  • Experienced in building and deploying machine learning models with a strong understanding of end-to-end machine learning pipelines and components.
  • Passionate about how model behavior can translate into impactful user experiences.
  • Experience or strong interest in design; this team works at the intersection of engineering and design, so a genuine desire or proven experience in this space is essential.
  • Great research skills with the ability to stay abreast of the latest developments in deep learning and generative AI, capable of translating cutting-edge research into practical solutions.
  • Proficient in Python coding; interviews will be in Python.
  • Familiar with several of the following: PyTorch, Kubernetes, Docker, Solr/Elastic Search, SQL.
  • Solid understanding of Computer Science/Engineering fundamentals covering system design, data structures, architecture, and design patterns.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering/Science or Mathematics.
About the Team

Our Layout AI team is essential in fulfilling Canva's mission to 'empower the world to design' by using AI to automate design decisions for our users, irrespective of their design skill level. We're building the foundations that will enable Canva to rapidly experiment with and deploy new AI-driven design capabilities, ultimately empowering our users to create amazing designs regardless of their skill level.
