The Health Promotion Educator - Harm Reduction position at AIDS Vancouver Island is a part-time role that requires a strong understanding of harm reduction philosophy and practice. The successful candidate will provide programming, education, and support relating to sexual health and harm reduction, with a focus on people who use criminalized substances and service providers.
Key Responsibilities- Facilitate workshops, programming, and presentations for diverse communities, both in person and online.
- Develop and implement community outreach and testing initiatives.
- Collaborate with the education team to design, implement, and evaluate educational workshops, projects, and events.
- Provide one-on-one education, information, support, and referrals to clients.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of HIV, HCV, and other STBBIs, including prevention, transmission, treatment, and emerging trends.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of harm reduction philosophy and practice.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong public speaking and group facilitation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid Class 5 BC Drivers' License and access to a vehicle, an asset.
AIDS Vancouver Island offers a competitive hourly rate of $30.20, with stepped increases based on seniority. The position is 15 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexible scheduling. The term of the position is until March 31, 2025, with the possibility of extension dependent on funding.
The successful candidate will be eligible for extended health, life, and AD&D coverage after 488 hours with AVI. AVI pays for the entire cost of the plan on behalf of its staff.
This position is a union environment under the Collective Agreement: HEABC & Health Services & Support Community Subsector Association and this role is a BCGEU union position.
